Why Visit Paradise Valley? Top 3 Attractions in Paradise Valley, Arizona

If you're looking for a place to get away from it all, look no further than Paradise Valley, Arizona. This beautiful town is located in the heart of the Sonoran Desert and is full of natural beauty and charm. Here are their top three picks for things to do in Paradise Valley:

The Desert Botanical Garden is a botanical garden that covers an area of 140 acres and can be found in Papago Park in Phoenix, in the central part of Arizona. The garden's address is 1201 North Galvin Parkway.  The Arizona Cactus and Native Flora Society established the garden in 1937, and it was moved to its current location in 1939. It now contains more than 50,000 plants in more than 4,000 taxonomic categories; one-third of the plants in the garden are native to the region, and 379 of the species in the garden are either rare, threatened, or endangered.

The extensive collections of agaves (4,026 plants in 248 taxa) and cacti, particularly those belonging to the Opuntia subfamily, are particularly noteworthy. Shadehouses provide protection from the elements for plants that can thrive in a wider range of environmental circumstances. The emphasis is placed on plants that are able to thrive in arid environments, and it features collections of flora from many parts of the world, including Australia, Baja California, and South America.

There are a few different types of habitats here, including a mesquite bosque, a semi-desert grassland, and an upland chaparral.  The Desert Botanical Garden has been acknowledged as a Point of Pride in the city of Phoenix History.  A few residents of the area started to become concerned about preserving the delicate desert ecosystem in the 1930s. Gustaf Starck, a Swedish botanist, was one of them. He attracted like-minded neighbors by putting up a sign that read, "Save the desert," with an arrow pointing to his house. They established the Arizona Cactus and Native Flora Society (ACNFS) in April 1934 with the goal of sponsoring a botanical garden to promote awareness of the distinctiveness of desert ecosystems around the world, particularly the local Sonoran Desert.

Eventually Gertrude Webster, whose residence covered the entirety of what is now the Arcadia area, joined the Society. She encouraged the creation of the botanical garden in Papago Park and provided connections, financial support, and encouragement. Margaret Bell Douglas also contributed by giving the herbarium 1,500 specimens.

The inaugural Board of Directors for the Society was presided over by Webster, and the vice presidents were Gustaf Starck, W. E. Walker, Rell Hasket, L. L. Kreigbaum, and Samuel Wilson. In addition, he was Treasurer. The Secretary was Paul G. Olsen. George Lindsay, who oversaw the first planting on the property, was chosen as the Garden's first executive director by the board in 1938, following extensive effort by the ACNFS. As a nonprofit museum devoted to research, instruction, protection, and the presentation of desert plants, the Desert Botanical Garden first opened its doors in 1939.

The Phoenix Zoo is the most extensive privately owned and operated not-for-profit zoo in the United States. It first opened its doors in 1962. The zoo was established in Phoenix, Arizona, by Robert Maytag, who was a member of the Maytag family. It is currently run on 125 acres of land in the Papago Park neighborhood of Phoenix, which is located in Phoenix. It has been dubbed a Phoenix Point of Pride by the city's government.

The zoo is home to more than 1,400 species and features walking pathways spanning a distance of 4.0 kilometers (2.5 miles). It is separated into four main themed areas or trails: the Arizona Trail, which is dedicated to the flora and fauna of the American Southwest; the Africa Trail, which is home to animals native to Africa; the Tropics Trail, which is home to animals native to rainforests; and the Children's Trail, which features a petting zoo.

Ever since it opened its doors, the zoo has been dedicated to protecting the environment. Soon after it opened, it took in what were thought to be the last few Arabian oryx. These animals became the foundation of the global herd that was built for Operation Oryx, which eventually made it possible for the species to be released back into the wild. It has been expanded to include a sanctuary that provides care for animals that are either endangered or are not wanted.

The marine aquarium known as OdySea Aquarium can be found within the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community in Scottsdale, Arizona. It is the largest aquarium in the Southwest region of the United States. It has a surface area of more than 200,000 square feet and can store more than 2,000,000 US gallons of water. There are approximately 65 separate exhibits housing a total of over 6,000 creatures from 370 different species.
